Plumber – Tools Used For Unblocking Drains

The plumbing system in any building is one of the most critical aspects of the structure. A building without water or a source of energy cannot function. The plumbing system in a residential home may not be as complex as the one found in a business or industry.

Any plumbing system will experience some problems at some point. The Sewer Inspections is there to make sure that any plumbing problems that you have are resolved in an efficient and effective way. This is to ensure that the solution offered will serve you for a long period of time.

Blocked Drains

If you are experiencing blocked drains all over your house at the same time, or you keep experiencing blocked drains every so often, it could be that you have a blockage in the main drainage pipe. In order to unclog the drainage, a plumber has to locate the main drainage pipe on your property. The plumbing is detached so that the main sewer pipe can be accessed. There are different methods which the plumber can use in order to unclog the drain.

Plumber’s Snake

The plumber will use a tool known as a plumber’s snake or auger to try and dislodge the blockage. This is a long cord which is made from wires and is lowered into the drainage pipe. The plumber’s snake is pushed in until the blockage is reached. The plumber will then crank the tool until he can get right through the blockage.

If the blockage is too severe, the plumber may decide to use an electric powered plumber’s snake. This one has a motor which can be turned on once the blockage is reached in order to reduce the clog to small pieces which can easily flow down the drain.

Hydrojetter

In case the plumber is not able to unclog the drain by using the plumber’s snake, he can try a different tool known as the hydrojetter. The hydrojetter consists of a nozzle which is fixed onto a pressure washer. The hydrojetter is lowered into the drain until the blockage is reached and the pressurized water is let to run.

The pressure that comes from the washer will break down the particles of the clog and will get rid of any grime that is stuck onto the pipes. This is a more effective method of unblocking the drain than the use of a plumber’s snake.

Closet Auger

A closet auger is very similar to the plumber’s snake but is specifically created to clear clogs in the toilet. It consists of a cable that is inside a stiff tube. The auger is bent at one end and pushed down the toilet drain curves until the clog is reached. The auger is then rotated until the blockage has been cleared from the drain.

Plunger

A plunger is used to remove the clog in sinks and toilets. If you want to unclog a sink, you should first remove any metal strainers and place a plunger on the drain opening. You should fill up the sink with water up to the halfway mark and before you begin plunging. You should ensure that you have a firm seal as you plunge vigorously. After you have plunged several times, you can pull the plunger up to check whether the water drains uninterrupted.
